Title: Workplace Violence in Northern Moroccan Hospitals: An In-depth Analysis

Abstract

Introduction:
Workplace violence (WPV) poses a significant challenge within healthcare systems, profoundly affecting the overall well-being and productivity of healthcare professionals. This study aims to uncover insights into the prevalence and perceptions of WPV among healthcare workers in the northern region of Morocco. Additionally, we investigate the presence of formal reporting procedures and the level of encouragement for reporting incidents of WPV.

Methodology:
Conducted between April and June 2023, this cross-sectional study involved 404 voluntary participants, including nurses and physicians. Participants provided demographic information, and their concerns about WPV were evaluated using a standardized questionnaire developed by reputable international organizations.

Results:
The diverse demographic profile of the 404 healthcare professionals unveiled an average age of 34.15, with a predominant representation of females (56%) and nurses constituting the majority at 76%. A notable 82% of participants expressed varying degrees of concern about WPV, underscoring the necessity for targeted interventions. In terms of reporting procedures, 65% reported the absence of formal mechanisms, highlighting potential deficiencies in reporting channels. Encouragement to report WPV exhibited variations, with 68% lacking support and 32% experiencing a positive reporting environment.

Conclusion:
This study reveals a nuanced landscape of concerns and perceptions related to WPV among healthcare professionals in the northern region of Morocco. The findings underscore the imperative of addressing the multifaceted nature of WPV within healthcare settings. Targeted interventions are essential to mitigate worries, enhance reporting mechanisms, and foster supportive workplace cultures for the well-being of healthcare professionals. Further research is warranted to delve into the root causes of these concerns and implement measures that promote a healthy and sustainable healthcare environment.
